In this year, Father Thomas A. Carney invited the Sisters of St. Mary of Namur to come start an elementary school. Four sisters traveled from Ft. Worth, Texas and opened the first mainland Catholic school in the area at the intersection of Highway 3 and Main Street. At that time, the school housed first through seventh grades. The school added eighth grade and kindergarten in the following years. Sister Justin Fox served as the principal until 1952, then again from 1968 through 1979.
In 1973 Monsignor Deslatte built a new church and school in the present location. Father Eugene Cargill took over as pastor March 1, 1977. During this next decade, True Cross Catholic School added a preschool program. The Sisters of St. Mary Namur continued to lead both the campus and classes well into the 1980s, with Phyllis Mitchiner joining the campus in 1973.
