Dear True Cross Families:
I wanted to update you on the latest news and processes as we all work through this unprecedented health crisis together.
First know that each of our students and families are in our daily thoughts and prayers. You are truly our family and first and foremost we hope that you are staying well in both mind and body. Through God's loving care we will make it through this trial and come out stronger on the other end.
As you will have seen in recent news reports the Catholic Schools Office of Galveston Houston has extended our school closure to April 10, 2020. This would put us back in our schools on the Monday following Easter. The next weeks it is critical that we all work together to bring our educational resources to our children in their home environments.
We initially asked all of our teachers to create weekly lesson plans and to distribute these to you along with materials via email. Your students are to complete these assignments at home - contacting the teacher by email or phone if any assistance is needed - and return them to the teacher by email. We know that this is a challenging process and can work well or less successfully depending upon the subject matter, electronic access, ability to access teaching materials, etc. To that end we are going to slightly modify this plan.
This Friday, March 20 and Saturday, March 21 you will have an opportunity to come to the school and pick up student materials (books, supplies, and lesson plans.) If you wish you can stop by the school during the appointed hours and our staff will assist you in gathering your student's materials. Each teacher will be communicating their lesson plans via email with specific instructions and contact points for individualized support. If you have not yet received an email from a teacher please reach out to them to ensure we have the best contact information for you and your student.
Parents and students are requested to continue scanning or photographing completed work and emailing it to the teachers. Those who are unable to return work via email to homeroom teachers will have an opportunity to do so by bringing completed assignments to the school and turning them in. Staff will not be present, but plastic tubs will be placed at the front doors of both the elementary and middle schools. Please make sure all work has your student's name and grade written on each page.
Teachers will not be available for in person meetings. Please know that this is for the ongoing welfare of us all. Teachers will be available to assist via email, phone calls and some online contact as needed.
